zebrabi/zebra-bi

v1.0.0Apache-2.0

The Zebra BI MCP connector bundled with the skills that put it to work: interactive IBCS-style charts and tables of your business data, variance explanations, and data stories you can export as a PDF, a shareable artifact page, or PowerPoint and Excel files with live Zebra BI visuals.

chart-from-data

Show business figures as an interactive IBCS-style Zebra BI chart or table with the render_visual tool. Use when presenting findings from business data such as sales, costs, budgets or KPIs, even if the user did not ask for a chart, and when the user asks to chart, plot or visualize numbers or to compare actuals with previous year, plan or forecast.

data-source

Resolve a dataset once and remember it: a local CSV or Excel file, an Excel file in SharePoint/OneDrive, or a Power BI semantic model through a Power BI/Fabric MCP. Profiles it (encoding, date order, sheet, measures, categories, row count) and saves a manifest in the .zebra/sources folder so nobody is asked the same thing twice and a story can be re-run on new data. Use when the user says 'use this data', 'remember this source', 'what sources do we have', '/zebra-bi:data-source', or when the data-story skill needs its input.

data-story

Turn a dataset into an IBCS data story told in the conversation: one key message, supporting messages, and a Zebra BI chart (render_visual) for each one. Takes a CSV or Excel file, Excel in SharePoint/OneDrive, a Power BI semantic model, or a source saved earlier. Use whenever the user asks how the business did from data they point to or keep: a month-end or quarter close ('how did we close September against plan and last year'), actuals against plan, budget, forecast or last year across several views, a performance review, revenue, cost or P&L questions. Also for 'data story', 'tell me what this data says', 'run the same story on the October file', '/zebra-bi:data-story', or a data file with a question about it. Prefer it over chart-from-data and variance-analysis when the answer needs several charts from a dataset; those handle one chart or one gap from figures already in the conversation. To share the story: story-pdf for a PDF, story-artifact for an artifact page, story-office for PowerPoint or Excel.

story-artifact

Turn a data story into one shareable Claude artifact page with its Zebra BI charts: the key message, the KPIs, one section per supporting message with its chart, and where to look next. A plain artifact page, never the Dashboard artifact type, which cannot carry Zebra BI charts. Charts are pictures of the Zebra BI charts by default, or live Zebra BI charts with hover on request. Builds from a story saved by data-story (its story.json under .zebra/stories) or from the story just told in the conversation. Use when the user says 'artifact', 'make it an artifact', 'a page I can share', 'a link to share', 'publish this story', 'one page I can share', '/zebra-bi:story-artifact'. For a PDF use story-pdf; for PowerPoint or Excel, story-office.

story-brand

Set the brand data stories are dressed in, the PDF, the PowerPoint deck and the Excel workbook around the Zebra BI charts, and the voice the narrative is written in. Without one, stories use the editorial default (IBCS and Fabric: Fluent neutrals, Segoe UI, hairlines, no accent colour). Interviews for the company's colours, fonts, logo, PowerPoint template, credit line and tone, reading their PowerPoint template or brand guideline first so it only asks what is missing, then previews a sample story and saves the brand. The charts keep their IBCS colours whatever the brand. Use when the user says 'use our brand', 'our colours', 'our PowerPoint template', 'make the stories look like ours', 'change the tone', 'our brand for stories', '/zebra-bi:story-brand', or 'back to the default look'.

story-office

Write a data story as a PowerPoint deck and/or an Excel workbook with live Zebra BI for Office visuals: a title slide with the key message, one slide (or sheet) per supporting message with its Zebra BI chart or table, the data in the workbook, and a picture of each chart for anyone without the add-in. Builds from a story saved by data-story (its story.json under .zebra/stories) or from the story just told in the conversation. Use when the user says 'make it a deck', 'PowerPoint', 'pptx', 'slides', 'Excel', 'xlsx', 'workbook', 'send this as slides', '/zebra-bi:story-office'. Only when someone asks for a file; data-story never builds it on its own.

story-pdf

Turn a data story into one shareable A4 PDF, in the company's brand or the editorial default, with the Zebra BI charts: the key message, the KPIs, one section per supporting message with its chart, and where to look next. Builds from a story saved by data-story (its story.json under .zebra/stories) or from the story just told in the conversation. Use when the user says 'PDF', 'make it a PDF', 'share this story', 'export the story', 'I want to send this', 'print this', '/zebra-bi:story-pdf'. Only when someone asks for a file; data-story never builds it on its own.

variance-analysis

Explain how actual business results differ from previous year, previous month, plan or forecast, and show the variances as a Zebra BI chart with render_visual. Use when the user asks why results are above or below budget, how this period compares with last year, which items drove a gap, or for a variance or budget-versus-actual review. For a month-end close or a review of a data file or saved source across several charts, the data-story skill tells the whole story with this method.
