Genealogy Researcher plugin

This folder is the plugin package for Genealogy Researcher. It connects ChatGPT, Codex, Claude and Claude Code to the remote MCP server at https://genealogy.junowoz.com/mcp and adds three skills that teach the assistant how to research family history with evidence.

The same folder serves both hosts. ChatGPT and Codex read plugin.json and mcp.json. Claude reads .claude-plugin/plugin.json and .mcp.json. Both read the skills in skills/.

What the plugin does

Searches your GEDCOM trees and public WikiTree profiles.
Reads facts, family and source citations for a person.
Lists ancestors and descendants, explains how two people are related and reports data problems.
Searches open archives (Internet Archive, Chronicling America, Open Archives, Wikidata) and builds search links for record sites.
Keeps research projects with questions, plans, search logs, evidence and conclusions, and shares them with other researchers.

FamilySearch support is planned, pending FamilySearch's authorization. No FamilySearch data is available today. The plugin never writes to an external family tree.

Install

Claude Code:

claude plugin marketplace add junowoz/genealogy
claude plugin install genealogy-researcher@junowoz-genealogy

Then run /mcp in Claude Code and sign in to genealogy-researcher.

Claude on the web and desktop: open Customize, then Connectors, choose Add custom connector and enter https://genealogy.junowoz.com/mcp.

ChatGPT: open Plugins, choose the plus button, then Add custom MCP server. Enter https://genealogy.junowoz.com/mcp and choose OAuth. The plugin directory listing is submitted separately.

Check and package

Run these commands from the repository root:

npm run plugin:validate
npm run plugin:pack
claude plugin validate plugin

plugin:pack writes dist/genealogy-researcher-<version>.zip, with plugin.json at the root of the archive. Add -- --openai to leave out the Claude-only files.
