v1.6.0MIT

AI Engineer is a collection of skills that help you create and optimize VS Code agents, skills, hooks, and plugins.

agent-maker

A skill for creating new VS Code agent files (.agent.md). Use it whenever the user asks to create a new custom agent, define an agent persona, or scaffold an agent specification. Do not use it for editing or optimizing existing agents, creating skills, or writing general documentation. For optimizing existing agents or decomposing them into orchestrator + subagent architectures, use the agent optimizer skill instead if available.

agent-optimizer

A skill for analyzing and optimizing existing VS Code agent files (.agent.md). Use it whenever the user wants to improve, refactor, or decompose an existing agent into an orchestrator + subagent architecture. Do not use it for creating new agents from scratch — use agent-maker for that.

custom-instruction-maker

A skill for creating AGENTS.md, copilot-instructions.md, CLAUDE.md, or similar AI instruction files that follow the Purpose → Tree → Rules structure with a built-in self-improving note-taking engine. Use it whenever the user wants to create an AGENTS.md, copilot-instructions.md, CLAUDE.md, or custom instruction file. Do not use it for creating agent files (.agent.md), skill files (SKILL.md), or general documentation.

hook-maker

A skill for creating VS Code Copilot agent hook configurations (hooks.json and companion scripts). Use it whenever the user asks to create a new hook, automate an action at a specific agent lifecycle event, or add hook support to a plugin. Do not use it for creating agents (.agent.md), skills (SKILL.md), or plugin manifests — use the appropriate maker skill for those.

instruction-auditor

A skill for auditing Markdown files that instruct an AI model (AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, copilot-instructions.md, *.instructions.md, .agent.md, SKILL.md, .prompt.md, or any similar file). Use it whenever the user wants to review, audit, lint, or tighten AI instructions, or to find contradictions, repetition, ambiguity, unsafe guidance, stale references, or missing coverage. Report-only: it never edits the audited file. Do not use it to create instruction files (use custom-instruction-maker, agent-maker, or skill-maker) or to rewrite agents (use agent-optimizer).

marketplace-maker

A skill for registering and exposing the current project's plugins in the VS Code Chat Plugin Marketplace. Use it whenever the user wants to publish a new plugin, update the marketplace listing, or synchronize the marketplace.json and README.md with the current set of plugins. Do not use it for creating plugin manifests, skills, agents, MCP, or hooks — use the dedicated maker skills for those if available.

plugin-maker

A skill for creating VS Code Copilot agent plugin manifests and scaffolding the complete plugin directory structure. Use it whenever the user asks to create a new plugin, register a collection of agents, skills, hooks, automation templates, or MCP servers as an installable unit, or add a plugin.json manifest to an existing folder. Do not use it for creating individual agents (.agent.md), skills (SKILL.md), or hook scripts — use the dedicated maker skills for those.

skill-maker

A meta-skill that helps you design, specify, and refine new AI skills (SKILL.md files) in a consistent, production-ready way. Use it whenever you’re defining or updating instructions for an AI assistant. Do not use it for solving the end-user task itself (coding, writing, analysis); it is only for designing the *skill* that will do that work.
