NowDev AI Toolbox — Agent Plugin

This directory is the plugin distribution of the NowDev AI Toolbox. It lets you use the toolbox's ServiceNow agents in the GitHub Copilot CLI, the GitHub Copilot app, VS Code agent plugins, and Claude Code, in addition to the VS Code extension.

The VS Code extension remains the primary product. This plugin is a generated artifact built from the same agent and skill sources. Do not edit the files in this directory by hand, except this README. Run npm run build:plugin from the repository root to regenerate them. npm run check:plugin fails when they are out of date.

One directory carries both plugin formats:

A root plugin.json that declares the Agent Plugins $schema takes precedence in Copilot. Claude Code reads only .claude-plugin/plugin.json. Each client therefore loads only its own agents.

What you get

  • One entry point: the NowDev AI Agent orchestrator. It triages your request and delegates directly to specialist agents: Refinement, Fluent Schema/Logic/Automation/UI, ATF, AI Agent, NowAssist, Reviewer, Release, Debugger, and Assistant. Specialists are hidden from the agent picker. The harness delegates to them by description.
  • ServiceNow skills covering Fluent development, React UI components, ATF fixtures, incident triage, release notes, and more. It also includes the /nowdev-start, /nowdev-review, and /nowdev-compact workflow skills.

Prerequisites

  • The ServiceNow SDK (@servicenow/sdk 4.6+, Node.js 20.18+) for agents that run SDK operations.
  • Recommended: ServiceNow's official now-sdk skill. The bundled nowdev-ai-toolbox-servicenow-sdk skill loads it first and falls back to the SDK's installed docs without it. Install it for Copilot with gh skill install ServiceNow/sdk now-sdk, or for Claude Code with /plugin install servicenow-sdk@claude-plugins-official.
  • A ServiceNow instance connection, configured through the SDK skill, if agents should query live instance facts. Never provide credentials in chat.

Install

GitHub Copilot CLI / app

Then run /agent and select NowDev AI Agent.

Claude Code

Then run /nowdev-ai-toolbox:nowdev-ai-agent <task>. Claude Code subagents cannot spawn further subagents, so the orchestrator ships as a skill that your main session follows. It delegates to the specialist subagents (nowdev-ai-fluent-schema-developer, …).

Feature parity

This plugin ships the agents and skills only. The VS Code extension's graphical features are extension-only and are not part of the plugin:

  • the Agents/MCP/Profiles management UI
  • documentation download and sync
  • guideline integration
  • one-click configuration
  • SDK commands, the instance browser, and per-workspace model presets

Agent behavior and skill content are otherwise identical.
